14-04-2011Peter Hernon, professor at Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Simmons College, Boston, USA, visits RSLIS from the 3rd of april to the 16th of april 2011.
Professor Hernon teaches in the areas of government information,
public policy, evaluation of library services, research methods,
and academic libraries. He is the author of more than 40
books and 300 scientific articles. In 1999, he won the ALA's
Highsmith Award for the best book in library and information
science.
The purpose of his visit to RSLIS is to design and implement a
survey of managers and management in libraries. This survey will be
conducted in the U.S., Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Peter Hernon
will also participate in the candidate module, Change Management
and Leadership in Libraries.
Despite his busy schedule, Professor Hernon found the time to tell
Insight about his reasons for coming to RSLIS and what he is
personally hoping to get out of his stay: "My main research areas
back in the States right now are leadership, evaluation and
assessment. I came here because of an invitation and a chance to
partner with
Niels Ole and
Carl on a book. So Niels Ole has been instrumental in bringing
me here. During my stay, I'm hoping to get a chance to familiarize
myself with Scandinavian libraries and the issues and challenges
they face.
While I'm here, I'm participating in a course on
change management. I've just spoken to the class for the last hour
and I have a couple more visits with them. Later, there's also
going to be an open session on assessment."
